Ranelagh This centre provides residential aftercare to young men of 18yrs +. All young men who are reffered to the service have spent some time living in a ‘care’ situation, whether that be residential or foster care. This service was founded following concern that young people leaving care were more vulnerable than their peers (who lived in the family home) to becoming homeless, getting involved in alcohol or drug abuse or becoming involved in criminal activity. Young men can stay in Ranelagh Road for up to two years, during which time they will work with a ‘link worker’ to develop the skills and confidence necessary for independent living. If a young man prefers to live on his own within that two years staff at the centre will help him to find a flat, get rent support and will provide outreach support for as long as he wants this. If the young man wants to stay with the Project for a further two years in order to save for a deposit on social housing etc, there are two self-contained flats at the back of the house in Ranelagh, one of which he can use if it is available. Staff will continue to provide supervision and outreach support if he moves to one of those flats. Referrals for this service can be directly to the manager by a social care agency within the greater Dublin area.
